Week 1 and 2

What is the Marine Debris Group? Who are they and what do they do? Well, we are UCLA ESS (Environmental Science Students) that were given an opportunity to do independent projects that had to deal with the effects of Marine Debris in the Los Angeles and Ventura county area. The ESS have a class which is dedicating in learning how do outside research and work with steakholders/clients in projects not only dealing with marine debris but also in other areas as well.
Each group has a mentor who is either a professor of an related area of study or the class professor.
For the first week we meet with our groups to get an idea of how the quarter was going to be mapped out. We were also able to get to know each of our group memembers. In the whole marine debris group it is divided into two groups. Team A and Team B. For this blog we are going to be discribing team B's experience. There are a total of eight people in the group; Alisan, Terri, Jon, Gabe, Karesine, Jaynel,Sean and Jamie. We each have different minors in our major and have something to contribute to the table.
Week 2: For the first weeks homework we had decided to create a google group so that managing tasks would be easier. We had uploaded each of our lit reviews so that we could have an idea of where we could be headed. The next step was to decide the parameters for the research. A list of beaches in the LA area (http://beaches.co.la.ca.us/BandH/Beaches/Main.htm) We had divded each beach amoung the eight of us and wrote about each one in regards to the most populated to the topography. For the next meeting we had decided on four beaches; Surfrider, Venice, Dockweiler and Redondo. For the coming weekend we had split the groups in two to survey two beaches each. Hopefully with further data collected we can better understand where we would like to further our research.
